When to use it

Supply map purpose, audience, platform, current style and primary data layers. Produces layer-order, label-density, palette and zoom recommendations for navigation, selection or storytelling. Unlike the existing map-data visualization skill, this focuses on the basemap and label hierarchy rather than chart encodings. Palette, small-text and zoom defaults are starting points, not universal accessibility requirements; validate actual label readability, attribution and contrast on target devices. Skill license does not grant rights to Mapbox services, tiles or third-party assets. Source documentation reviewed; not installed or runtime-tested. GitHub stars are repository-wide, not skill-specific.

Installation

With Node.js available, run `npx skills add mapbox/mapbox-agent-skills --skill mapbox-cartography`. Choose your supported agent and scope, retain the entire skill directory including references/, and start a new session. The README documents collection and plugin installation too. For tool-backed validation or style editing, separately configure the documented Mapbox MCP DevKit and any required account credentials; installing skill text alone does not provide those tools.

Review the source and instructions before installing in your agent.

Pair this skill with a visual reference

A skill guides how your agent works; a design reference shows the direction you want. Choose an example for a specific job, such as the headline hierarchy or form layout, and keep your project's existing design rules explicit.

Start with design references you can inspect, then use our guide to briefing an AI coding agent to turn observations into requirements. If you need implementation components, compare UI libraries for your stack.

These pages are public. Browsing a skill does not install it, and TastefulKit's design-reference MCP tools do not search the AI-skill directory.
